FINISHED SIZE:
Small (Medium, Large, Extra Large). Garment width around underarms is about 37 (39, 43, 44)".

MATERIALS:

Coats & Clark Red Heart Premier 4 ply knit and crochet yarn - 15 (16, 17, 18) ounces Pink
Aluminum crochet hook, size H

GAUGE:
3 V-st Clusters= 2"
To save time, take time to check gauge.

INSTRUCTIONS:

PATTERN STITCH:
Row 1: dc in 5th ch from hook, * skip 2 ch, in next ch work dc, ch 2, and dc (V-st made); repeat from * across, end skip 2 ch, dc in last ch. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: * In ch-2 of next V-st work (yo and draw up a loop, yo and through 2 loops on hook) 2 times, yo and through 3 loops on hook (2-dc cluster made), ch 1, work another 2dc cluster in same V-st (V-st cluster completed); repeat from * across, end by skipping 2 ch, dc in next ch of starting ch. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: * In ch-1of next V-st cluster work dc, ch 2, and dc (V-st in V-st cluster made); repeat from * across, end dc in last dc. Ch 3, turn. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for pattern stitch.

BACK:
Ch 85 (91-97-103). Work in pattern stitch on 27 (29-31-33) V-sts until 7' (8'-8"-9), from beginning. Do not ch 3 at end of last row.

Shape Armholes:
Sl st over 3 complete V-sts (or V-st clusters), sl st in space between next 2 V-sts, ch 3 for first dc, work in pattern as established across to last 3 V-sts, dc between last V-st worked and next Vst. ( 3 V-sts decreased each edge; ) 21 V-sts.
Work in pattern as established until about 9" (9 1/2" 10" 10 1/2") above beg of armhole shaping, end pattern stitch Row 3.

Shape Shoulders:
Work in pattern across 6 (6-7-8) V-sts. Cut yarn. Skip center 9 (11 - 11 -11) V-sts, join yarn between next 2 V-sts, ch 3 for first dc, work in pattern across last 6 (6-7-8) V-sts. Fasten off.

FRONT:
Make same as back to armhole.

Shape Armhole and V-Neck:
Sl st across 3 V-sts (or V-st clusters) same as on back, ch 3 for first dc, keeping to pattern work 10 (11-12-13) V-sts across, dc between next 2 V-sts; leave remainder of row unworked. Ch 3, turn.

Next Row: Beginning at neck edge, work in pattern across. Ch 3, turn.

Next Row: Beginning at armhole edge, work in pattern to last V-st, yo and draw up a loop in center of next V-st, yo and draw up a loop in last dc, yo and through 3 loops on hook. Ch 3, turn.

Keeping to pattern, repeat last 2 rows until 6 (6-7-8) V-sts remain. Work until same length as back to shoulder. Fasten off.

FINISHING: Sew shoulder and side seams.

Waist Ribbing: Ch 13 (15-17-17).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across-12 (14-16-16) sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Working in back loops only, sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until piece, slightly stretched, fits around bottom of vest. Fasten off.
Sew short ends together to form a circle. With seam of ribbing at side seam of vest, sew ribbing in place around bottom of vest.

Armhole Border (Bottom Section):
Row 1: Note that at underarm there are 6 unworked V-sts. Working on these sts only, join yarn in dc at side, work 12 sc evenly across bottom edge of armhole to other side, sl st in side of armhole. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1 and sl st in side of armhole, sc in each sc across, sl st in side of armhole. Turn.
Rows 3 and 4: Repeat Row 2. Fasten off.

Armhole Ribbing (Top and Sides): Ch 5 (6-6).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across-4 (4-5-5) sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Working in back loops only, sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until piece fits around top and sides of armhole. Fasten off. Sew ribbing in place at armholes.

Neck Ribbing:
Ch 4. Work same as armhole ribbing on 3 sc until piece fits around neck. Fasten off.
Beginning and ending at front of V-neck and overlapping ribbing slightly, sew ribbing in place around neck edge.

Bow:
Ch 4. Work same as armhole ribbing on 3 sc until 15" from beginning. Fasten off. Tie piece evenly into a bow and sew in place at center front of V-neck.
